A few years ago when I was trying to absorb as much information about the 1911 as I could... I offered to put together a book based on Jerry's excellent photos, free of charge. The idea was that Jerry could provide me a detailed narrative of what he was doing, a comprehensive description of how he set the operation up, and what the ideal tolerances were he was trying to achieve. BTW, some of his photos do include a description. I tried and I tried but Jerry wouldn't take the bait since he didn't have the cycles for it. Unfortunately, I don't have the time anymore but maybe Jerry has more time now and someone else can take the baton.

Heck, I would be happy with a manuscript from BBBBill, Greg, Chuck, and others on this form. There is so much great info and experience with these guys!

Random Smithery it is..
This is an initial lay out... Working on the set up.. The value of fixture plates...Love em.. I will post the progress on this, as it goes along...Just getting an idea/feel of the set up.. Need to machine the radius on the bases next.. It is an old Rem. rolling block 45/70
Custom Scope Mounts will be machined while attached to the barrel to ensure alignment. It eliminates the error on tapered barrels. Scope mounts are never exact in height. Nor are two piece bases aligned on the same axis. These are in great demand.. So if 1911 work is stalling, these will feed the flock..I believe I could have made a living at this alone... I don't know how many I have done, over the years..

Do you employ something like jack screws to sneak up on the alignment? I could see how tedious it could be to get the final couple of tenths....

Hello Joe
The .500 gage pin seen near the muzzle, can be moved to and fro on the barrel taper, to acquire some fine adjustment..
