Here's my second 1911 build, a birthday present to my wife. Started a year ago then it sat around in the "projects" pile for a long time. Hope you enjoy! This is a Commander 9 mm.

Thanks BBBBill!

I do have a finishing question if I may... I am not entirely happy with the mirror polish that the finisher performed on the slide flats. The mirror polish is uneven in some spots partly because I had to do some filing which created low spots, but other parts are a bit hazy. Do you think I should just use a flat surface and sandpaper until the surfaces are completely even, or is this better suited for a professional with a surface grinder prior to mirror polishing again?

I like the checkering and the top border treatment. Did you do that yourself?

The checkering was already done on the frame, so I just used a 60 degree file to point up the pyramids to my preference, but I did do the top border filing to get rid of the factory undercut/bump.

I'm not a finishing pro, so take my advice with a couple grains......

If I were to do it myself the flat plate with sandpaper down to 1500 or 2000 grit before final polish. Might take a while...

Or send it to a pro. The surface grinder will make short work of the low spots. Still will require more hand work to get to the final level of polish.
