For many years, I've wondered what the exact relationship was between the Ordnance Technology SSP-86, the Competitor Single Shot, and the Magnum Research Lone Eagle. From what I can piece together, the SSP-86 was designed by John P. Foote. One of Ordnance Technology's subcontractors, Alfred R. Straitiff, thought that he could improve the design, which he then marketed on his own as the Competitor pistol. Ordnance Technologies then tweaked their SSP-86 to create the SSP-91. Magnum Research licensed the SSP-91, and sold it under that name for a couple of years. After making a couple of improvements to the SSP-91's design, MRI then marketed the improved design as the Lone Eagle.
