I have always thought that 1911 sights looked out of proportion on a BHP, even when modified specifically for them. This is one in the raw that I did some time ago. It's about 80% the size of 1911 sights. I have some sight blanks for 1911's I'm re doing, and when I finish them, I might look into BHP sights.
...as always, your thoughts are welcomed..

Chuck, my biggest beef with aftermarket sights is when the dovetail cut gets into the top edge of the cocking serrations ala Novak. Novak is a great sight, but I would like it better if it were scaled down just a bit in that area to keep the serrations intact. Your sight looks like it has lots of potential using that dovetail and base combo. You can go lots of places with different blade configurations based on that.

That was the idea BBBBill. I hate getting into the serrations.

I've been using the 1911 Novak sights on the MK III Hi-Powers and the earlier models with the adjustable sights, as I didn't like the tiny Novak MK III style sights. The only alternative was to use either the MK II sights and use a filler for the original dovetail; this is what Novak did when a customer requested it. He now has a new design for the MK III. They're larger, but look different in that they hang over both the front and rear of the dovetail.

Don, I've seen your install of the 1911 sight. Very clean install that results in a great package. I like it a lot. Just wish that dovetail was a bit smaller to keep it out of the serrations.I've often wondered if the dovetail could be cut down and still work/look correct, but I haven't set down with a sight and a slide to do the math. Bot then I wonder about a lot of strange combinations.

I kept this one small, because I don't like the snaggy feeling of the larger dovetails. I could have shortened the front as well, but then it would be shy of removing the factory dovetail in some FEG, Charles Daly and such. These have the same sight picture and height as the Heinies, which I have used forever, just a smaller sight body.

I always thought these looked about 10% too big when seen in person

The only thing I didn't like about the Novaks was the size of the dovetail cut. Of course now everyone wants a sight you can rack the slide with as well....lol
