I have been shooting considerable amounts of lead bullets as of late because of cost and love to shoot .45. Im looking for best ways to clean it up..

What do you guys do?

Very simple for me. I soak the barrel in a glass jar filled with regular Hoppes #9. Leave it soak for a few days. Use a nylon brush and patch it out. No lead, no jacket fouling or carbon. Been using the same jar for 30 years just adding Hoppes when necessary. Also works with PPC revolver cylinders that are heavily leaded, but they may have to soak longer. I have let blued cylinders soak for up to 2 weeks with no harm to the finish and they come out whistle clean.

There is sludge and residue in the bottom, but it does no harm in my experience.

I have never emptied the jar just added more Hoppes #9 as required.

WARNING DO NOT TRY THIS IS A NICKLE PLATED SMITH OR COLT REVOLVER.

Procedure is harmless to blued parts. Make sure you use REGULAR Hoppes #9 without an copper cutter or amonia.

Shooters Choice Lead Remover and a copper Chore Boy strand wrapped around a brush--and probably do not really need the to use the Shooter Choice, likely Hoppes #9 would do.
I have been shooting nothing but lead (my own cast, and fairly soft) for about 4 years with no leading after a minute or so of barrel cleaning.

+1 on the copper choreboy strips wrapped around a brass brush. I don't use anything fancy on the brush, I still have 2 6 oz cans of surplus US military rifle bore cleaner that I use, the milky looking stuff. It still does a good job on the lead.

Eds Red works excellent on lead issues. IMO better than the commercial stuff.
Eds Red can be found doing an internet search
