Hello,

This new 1911 I'm putting together will have a magwell added.

I'm looking for grips that look "right" with it.

My all-time favorite grips are Pearce rubber with slight palm swells. This preference was born of a lot of trial and error with many different types, including some higher dollar sets.

I can't seem to find these cut for magwells, so I'm looking at other options. I'd really like rubber with slight palm swells. Any thoughts on who might make some?

Thank you,

Josh

You can find a lot of wood, micarta, or G-10 grips cut for a magwell, but you're probably on your own with rubber. Anyone can cut a grip to clear a magwell. With rubber you can use a belt or disc sander.

Hi Bill,

Thank you. I just wanted the square-cut bottoms that meet flush with a magwell. The magwell's going on mostly because I have wide hands and they help with my grip.

Regards,

Josh

Talk to Barbra at Smith&Alexander, they have carried a selection of mag well grips for obvious reasons.

I know Pachmayers have a steel insert moulded into the rubber grip. This might present an issue if you try to shorten them. I suspect other brands have inserts as well.

It quite doable to cut Pachmayr grips to clear mag wells, even if you have to trim the steel insert. But I dont think that is the issue Josh Smith is worried about, reads to me like he wants to fill the gap that is caused by the bottom bevel on "normal" 1911 grips. He wants grips made to fit flush with bolt-on magwells.

I have some palmswell Hogue grips, but they're not flat bottom. I didn't see any on the Hogue website that are both palmswell and flat bottom. Did I miss something?

Regards,

Josh
